First off I'd like to thank the Sister Lakes community church for their wonderful trunk or treat event last weekend. The kids had a great time and it was well put together. That was a really great community event. Other than politics not a lot else has happened this week... so on to the election.
Remember Tue, Nov 8th is election day. Don't vote straight party, vote for the individual. Almost everyone running is from Sister Lakes. While there are many good people running, I'm very partial to those backing Sister Lakes Ambulance and those would be Joe True - Supervisor, Jim Meersman and Tim Pitcher for Trustee. Their years of experience in the community and past positions would make them valuable additions to our township board.
I have had a report of some outright lies going around Keeler that some candidates support closing Keeler Fire, that Sister Lakes has always gotten preferential treatment, etc. No idea who's spreading that but as the videos on youtube of the debates show no one said any such thing. Candidate Blackmond did mention the idea of the township putting an office and an ambulance station in Sister Lakes to be in better contact with people at the Lions Park debate, but even that wasn't a comment about closing Keeler. Closing wouldn't even be a feasible suggestion as Keeler FD is responsible for a big percentage of fire coverage of our township and the department is quite capable. Also Sister Lakes has never gotten preferential treatment. The SLFD received $4,600 for fire coverage in the last budget compared to about $100,000 to Keeler. So I'm not sure how that would be preferential treatment. Then again since almost everyone running resides in Sister Lakes I'm not sure this supposed anti-Sister Lakes movement really will have much of an effect.
